Alumni
The diploma nursing program from the Hampton Training School for Nurses and Dixie Hospital graduate its first class in September 1956. The Hampton Training School for Nurses and Dixie Hospital graduates continued to function as the Dixie Hospital Nurses’ Alumni Association, with Chapters across the United States. In June 1968, the Executive board of the Hampton Training School for Nurses Alumni Association met with Mr. O.G. Taylor, then Director of Alumni Affairs at Hampton University. An agreement with Hampton University was reached and the Hampton Training School for Nurses became an integral part of Hampton University. Today the Hampton Training for Nurses Alumni Association is known as the Hampton University Nurses Alumni Association. The composition of this group includes graduates from Hampton Training for Nurses/Dixie Hospital, graduates from Hampton University that took liberal arts and core nursing classes on the campus of Hampton University and graduates from Hampton University degree granting programs both the baccalaureate and masters program in nursing.
Each year the Hampton University Nurses Alumni provides scholarships to deserving nursing students at Hampton University. Our Alumni is very visible and active in the Hampton community. The Chapters meet annually on the Campus of Hampton University in May during graduation weekend. The two day plenary session includes an update on the School of Nursing and other happenings on the campus at large. Also, included is an educational workshop and luncheon at the Hollytree Inn located on Hampton University’s Campus. Selected graduates from carious years are honored at the luncheon.
